Entonox

The modern mother-to-be has more and more ways available to her to effect pain relief during the various stages of labour. The most convenient option comes in the form of an inhalation analgesic called, Entonox.

Entonox is a 50 : 50 mixture of Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen, wherein the Nitrous Oxide provides the analgesia, whereas the Oxygen gives additional benefit to both mother and baby.

Its use should generally start towards the end of the first stage of labour. That is when it is most beneficial. It is also beneficial for women whose cervix is not fully dilated and they get a premature urge to push. For these women, if they use Entonox and change their position, it has been found that the two things in conjunction help tremendously.

It takes about 20 seconds to feel the effect of Entonox, with maximum benefit in about a minute. In order to get the maximum pain relief, it is advisable to start taking in Entonox early enough, when the uterus begins to tighten.

Entonox is a safe and well proven which has been used in modern midwifery for many years. It provides the mother-to-be with “total control”, because it only works when she breathes in and stops automatically when she breathes out. Besides, the face mask or the mouthpiece of the Demand Valve Apparatus is always hand held, hence the control.

For detailed discussions and demonstrations of all the above, please contact your nearest BOC India office or place your enquiry with us.
