BOC Shielding gases are being used by a wide range of industries helping our customers to raise quality and productivity standards and operate more cost -effectively and safely. For industries using the GMAW, GTAW and FCAW processes for welding there are a number of application areas for our gas mixtures. In addition they are also used for Plasma welding and cutting of sheets plates in some industries.

1. Automobiles
GMAW process using Argoshield gas mixtures is now extensively used in the Automobile sector. Major applications include
Two wheelers - frames, petrol tanks, mufflers etc.
Auto components - seat frame, axle assembly, suspension and chassis assembly etc.

LCV'S/MCVS - under frames, front cowl etc.
Bus and truck bodies
In addition there is some use of Specshield and Stainshield mixtures for
MIG brazing of auto body components
GTAW of stainless steel components
2. General Fabrication
GMAW is the major process used in the engineering and construction sector for fabrication. The FCAW process is also used for heavier sections. Our Argoshield mixtures are used to advantage in various applications that include
Light, Medium & Heavy structural fabrication
Freight containers
Bridge & tunnel works
Cranes & construction equipment, windmills
Ship building and refurbishment
Steel furniture manufacturing
There is also some use of Specshield gases for Plasma cutting application for heavier thickness plates
3. Railways
GMAW process using Argoshield gas mixture finds major application in the railways for

Stainshield gas mixture have been introduced for fabrication of stainless steels coaches

4. Earth-moving equipment
Major processes used in Earth moving equipment fabrication are GMAW and FCAW. Argoshield and Specshield gases may be used in following applications.
Dumper body & frames
Dozer body, frames & blades
Crushers, shovels etc.
Plasma cutting application for heavier thickness of plates
5. LPG Cylinders
The GMAW process using Argoshield gas mixtures has replaced Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) for manufacturing of LPG cylinders. ( See case study 3)

6. Defence
GMAW process is now being introduced for various items in defence industries with its application in

8. Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Fertilizer plants & Refineries
Dominant process is GTAW with use of Pureshield Argon, Stainshield TIG and Specshield gas mixtures for welding of various corrosion and heat resistant material like Stainless Steel, Inconel, Monel, Nickel & Copper alloys used in such plants. Applications are for

9. Cryogenic & Air Separation Units
Both GMAW & GTAW processes are used with Pureshield Argon, Specshield and Stainshield gas mixtures with its application in
Austenitic SS vessels
